ABOUT CM IN SOFTWARE-DOMINANT AND AI SYSTEMS CLASS

This course provides comprehensive insight to the theory, principles, and techniques of SAE EIA649 Configuration Management (CM) as applied to modern, software-dominant, and AI-driven systems throughout their entire lifecycle. It addresses the reality of continuous change—where code, dynamic dependencies, infrastructure as code, and machine learning models continuously evolve—and reframes CM from traditional tool operation into an evidence-based governance discipline.

The course illustrates modern strategies, techniques, and required tool capabilities (such as Git workflows, Software Bills of Materials [SBOMs], automated CI/CD pipelines, and dataset versioning) that support each activity in the system development lifecycle. Students will gain a value-based understanding of how to establish system intent, manage structural drift, and maintain authority across complex, graph-shaped dependency chains.

The course concludes by providing an advanced CM governance framework for planning, verifying, and executing deterministic audit replay, enabling organizations to reconstruct, explain, and prove system configuration truth and health at any point in time.
