ABOUT CM METRICS WORKSHOP

Metrics provide an opportunity to make the BUSINESS CASE for the kind of information, tools, budget, personnel, training, and resources needed to effectively achieve Best-of-Breed CM. This, in turn, supports the successful achievement of both Program and Enterprise goals.

This hands-on workshop is designed for Configuration Management (CM) professionals who are responsible for CM process improvement in their organization as required by SAE EIA-649C. The course will teach practitioners how to develop relevant metrics that will drive processes towards meeting organizational and program goals. Participants will work through example scenarios with real data (no IT experience necessary). Methods for metrics development, testing, baselining, analysis, presentation, and refinement will be introduced and then practiced, enabling attendees to bring these skills back to their workplaces.

An extensive collection of metrics that has been gathered by CMPIC over recent years will be used as the starting point for describing what metrics are usually required of CM and the difference between them and metrics that will be useful to Configuration Managers to gain a better understanding of the overall health of their processes. Students will design metrics as well as the resolution process for dealing with any metrics that fall outside of the acceptable, expected parameters. The overlap between CM metrics and those of other disciplines will also be covered to facilitate measurement of integrated Enterprise-level CM.

Take homes include your workshop book, a Certificate of Completion, and 1.6 CEUs (Continuing Education Units).
