WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS (CHOOSE ONE):

WORKSHOP #1, CMPIC METRICS WORKSHOP: "Developing Meaningful Metrics"

This course is designed for Configuration Management (CM) professionals who are responsible for CM process improvement in their organization. The course will teach metrics development, presentation, and refinement strategies which will enable attendees to use meaningful metrics to drive their process improvements as required by SAE EIA-649.

An extensive collection of metrics that has been gathered by CMPIC over recent years will be used as the starting point for describing what metrics are usually required of CM and the difference between them and the true metrics that will be useful to Configuration Managers to gain a better understanding of the overall health of their processes. Students will design metrics as well as the resolution process for dealing with any metrics that fall outside of the acceptable, expected parameters. The overlap between CM metrics and those of other disciplines will also be covered to facilitate measurement of integrated Enterprise-level processes.

During this course, students will use a realistic scenario to actively plan and develop process metrics, analyze the data, and go through the exercise of refining the metrics as processes are matured. These workshops will provide a real-world, hands-on experience. The skills learned in this course will provide a sound basis for future development and fine-tuning of metrics providing for data-informed process improvements.

Take homes include your workshop book, a Certificate of Completion, and 1.6 CEUs (Continuing Education Units).

Prerequisites preferred for this workshop: CMPIC Course 6 "SAE EIA-649C Principles & Applications Certification" or a thorough understanding of the SAE EIA-649C CM Standard and its principles.

WORKSHOP #2, CMPIC FCA/PCA WORKSHOP: "Functional Configuration Audit (FCA) and Physical Configuration Audit (PCA) In-Depth Process Workshop"

This two-day hands-on workshop will dive into the requirements and objectives of the Functional Configuration Audit (FCA) and Physical Configuration Audit (PCA) for both government and commercial environments. Audits are a summation of the configuration verification activity and are relevant to commercial and government industries. Explore a unique product audit scenario that allows attendees to participate in group audit activities led by multiple CMPIC instructors. Learn what these audits are about from both the acquirer perspective and the supplier perspective. Using International Standards such as SAE EIA-649C and IEEE Std 15288.2, attendees will evaluate the process from start to finish. Take homes include your workshop book containing important resources to plan, conduct and document a Configuration Audit (e.g.PCA/FCA), a Certificate of Completion and 1.6 CEUs (Continuing Education Units).
